Colour Palettes

As my other blog post said, I'm doing a minimalistic urban/cityscape style. I feel like using monochromatic colors would further emphasize that my work is minimalistic as it only revolves around using 1 colour but with different tones/hues.

colour palette 1 (Custom)

Here I'm using pink as my primary colour. The cooler tones of the pink scream minimalism which is what I'm going for. Since muted colours are what mostly saturate the minimalist style, this palette is more suitable due to it containing mostly mute colours.

colour palette 2 (complementary)

Here I'm using complementary colours (yellow and blue). Although i said monochromatic colours would suit more in the minimalist style i feel like i could also use brighter colours and emphasize my subject using positive/negative space. Looking back to the works of Joseph muller-Brockmann i saw in some of his works that he used analogous colours (red and yellow) and positive/negative spaces. It inspires me to do the same thing and not only stick to the generic monochromatic colours in minimalism.

colour palette 3 (Monochromatic)

Here I'm using different shades of grey. This colour palette is what you would expect in the minimalistic genre. This palette is safer due to grey already being a muted colour. Using this palette would be suitable for any work. If I decided to play it safe I might use this palette

Colour Palette 4(Analogous)

My first try at using Analogous colours was quite complicated. Therefore I didn't really get any nice combinations. This is the only colour combination that suited my taste. However, this palette doesn't really suit well with my theme.

Colour Palette 5(Triad)

The colors I got from the triadic colours look sophisticated. The greys and the darker tones will suit well for luxurious themes. The darker tones suit well for minimalism as it provides depth to the work. I might further develop this color palette and use it for all of my works

Colour Palette 6(Square)

Working with square colour harmony is easier due to the instant result of an eyecatching colour combination. This might be because it's quite similar to complementary colours. However, I didn't like this particular colour palette. The colours are too pastel and wouldn't really suit the minimalistic and sophisticated vibe.

Colour Palette 7(Split Complementary)

I found working with complementary colours due to it producing good colour harmonies. This colour combination will suit well for a minimalistic style due to the muted tones. Since the minimalism genre mostly used muted tones, it will be easier with working on this colour palette.

Colour Palette 8(Double Complementary)

Just like the split complementary colours, I found it easy to produce a good colour harmony due to the strong contrast of the colours to one another. Although I said I didn't really like using pastel colours. However, this colour combination made me rethink my decisions. I might further develop this colour palette and use it.

Colour Palette 9(Compound)

This colour combination really stood out to me due to the contrasting of the opposite hues. The blue and the pink really suit well with each other. This palette will also work with my theme if I further develop it. I might use some greys as it is the pinnacle of the minimalistic genre.

Colour Palette 10 (Shades)

The shade colour scheme is really similar to monochromatic as they both use a single colour with different tones. I prefer working with these kinds of colour schemes due to them being simple and yet having a sophisticated look. The scheme also suits a minimalistic style.

Colour Palette 11(Custom)

Here I just randomly adjusted each knob to produce some kind of colour combination. Doing this, produced a rather unique combination. This made me realize it is better to have a plan to create what suits your taste before diving into the waters.

Personally, I like all the colour palettes. I might find a way to compact all of my ideas into a single palette I might update this blog if I come up with a color palette that suits my taste while incorporating all of the ideas that I researched above.

Final Colour palette

Since I mostly like greys and golds. I combined some of the yellow shades and greys with the color harmony that I researched. Looking back to my artist model. He also used this kind of color scheme in his works. It gives off a sophisticated and minimalist vibe. Due to it also being a different shade of yellow, it will be easier to work with.
