Simile and Metaphor

Simile and Metaphors are a figure of speech that compares an object to another object. Many writers use this figure of speech to make their writing or essays more dramatic and much more engaging. Similes and metaphors help us to have more of an opening eye to what's happening in a writing. In a reader's perspective having figures of speech such as similes and metaphors makes the story have a soul and emotion making us relate more to what's happening in a story.

Although Similes and Metaphors are used to compare an object, They are fairly different. Similes use the words "like and "as" to compare something. An example of a phrase that uses simile is "Flow like a river". The word "flow" is being compared to a river while using the word "like". Metaphors also compare things but more of a straightforward way. Unlike simile, It doesn't use the words "Like or "as". An example of a metaphor is "You are the apple of my eye". Metaphors are quite tricky to understand. It doesn't mean that you are an actual apple but meaning that when I see you I become happy.

Simile and Metaphors are also used by many mainstream songwriters and artist

One of a popular song that uses simile is "Drip" by rapper Cardi B

Give me little something to remember (Cardi!)
Tryna make love in a Sprinter (yeah)
Quick to drop a nigga like Kemba (go)
Lookin' like a right swipe on Tinder (woo)

It's a simile because it used the word "like" to compare an object

Metaphors can also be seen in mainstream music. "Titanium" by David Guetta used a metaphor

I'm bulletproof, nothing to lose
Fire away, fire away
Ricochet, you take your aim
Fire away, fire away
Shot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium
Shot me down but I won't fall
I am titanium

It's a Metaphor because the song describes that the person saying it isn't actually real titanium but
rather a more dramatic and effective way of saying "I am strong".
