What is my art kaupapa

Kaupapa is the principle or theme of a matter or subject in an artwork. An example of a kaupapa is "Perseverance" while having the art matter of "Mountain". Perseverance is the kaupapa of the mountain because despite having the hardship of climbing a mountain and having many steep paths ahead we persevere to reach the summit and be indulged by the beauty of the things that we can see above.  Kaupapa is important for making the art matter more elaborate and understandable. It emphasizes what is the theme that is portraying by the artist and the artwork. In level 1 NCEA my art theme will be mainly focusing on eclipse and tigers. I will use eclipse and tigers as a personification

I have chosen Love as my kaupapa because I want to show how love can be sorrowful and beautiful at the same time

The media's that I will be working with is Paint and Photography

The two artists that I have selected to take inspiration from  Lisa Reihana and Sofia Minson from list one and Man Ray and Roy Lichtenstein from line two

The artist that inspired me the most is Hannah Hoch. Hannah Hoch gives more of a blunt and mysterious feel to her artworks.

I want to use eclipse and tigers as my subject matter

  1. This is perfect JC, thank you for this. I like the direction your work could go in. A good way for you to begin to generate ideas, particularly as you like Hannah Hoch, would be to use newspaper cuttings and images from magazines. collect together what might seem like a random collection of these and we could photocopy them to resue in interesting ways.
